‘Generation to Serve’ youth camp dedicate their service to ADRA and those affected by the torrential rains in Valencia
By Olga Calonge.-
Two buses full of young volunteers willing to dedicate their valuable time to helping those affected by the torrential rains on October 29. On Sunday, May 11, the GPS camp, part of the Generation to Serve project, visited the ADRA Spain logistics warehouse in Albalat dels Sorells, Valencia, to serve as volunteers at this important facility, from which ADRA coordinates its aid efforts in the region.

The GPS camp included volunteer work with ADRA as part of its scheduled activities. In total, nearly 140 young people, arriving in two buses, visited and collaborated with the ongoing daily work at the logistics center in Albalat dels Sorells.
This warehouse has been provided by Hermanos Vázquez S.A. since last November and has made it possible to channel all donations and necessary materials to address the emergency caused by the torrential rains. Having access to this facility has been, and continues to be, a key factor in maintaining stable and efficient aid in the area. It is estimated that over 5,000 people were assisted in the first months of the emergency at ADRA’s service points in Paiporta, Catarroja, and Benetússer (between 300 and 400 families each day).
The collaboration of the GPS camp youth with ADRA Spain allowed these volunteers to witness firsthand the reality of the Adventist NGO’s work in the area affected by the torrential rains. ADRA Spain extends its thanks to all of them and their directors, Maijo Roth and Joan Llorca, for their willingness, collaboration, and service to those most in need. This work will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the families who, seven months after the DANA, are still in a vulnerable situation.
Currently, ADRA is carrying out full renovations on seven homes. It has also worked on different levels of renovation in a total of 28 houses in Benetússer, Paiporta, Aldaia, Catarroja, Sedaví, Massanassa, Alfafar, and Riba Roja. The financial investment in materials alone exceeds €35,500. Following the renovations, ADRA has also supported the provision of appliances, furniture, and other essential household items, with more than €15,000 spent on specific purchases for these homes.
Additionally, since January, several donations of brand-new refrigerators, washing machines, and other small appliances have been received, along with mattresses and bedding. Other second-hand donated items are being sorted and prepared by volunteers to ensure they are delivered in the best possible condition.
