Helping homeless people in Beograd
ADRA Serbia organized a solidarity event marking World Homelessness Day (October 10th) in Beograd, Serbia’s capital.
“It is a day to draw attention, support, and donate. But also for some messages. Serbia belongs to the countries with the greatest social inequality among European countries. While even half of the population in Serbia lives in overcrowded households, Serbia is at the same time among the most inaccessible European countries for buying an apartment,” the representative explains the dire situation.
People showed solidarity and support for homeless people and donated hygiene products, food, and clothes. With the money raised, ADRA Serbia bought underwear.
They are still collecting clothes, as there is a need for 120 packages that would include tracksuits, socks, underwear, and T-shirts. Canned food, winter jackets and shoes, and trainers are also needed.
The purpose of World Homeless Day is to draw attention to the needs of people who experience homelessness locally and provide opportunities for the community to respond to homelessness while taking advantage of the stage an ‘international day’ provides – to end homelessness through improved policy and funding.
