Hope Has a Safe Place: ADRA Romania Renews Licence for Its Emergency Shelter During enditnow Month

A fresh 5-year accreditation strengthens ADRA’s stand against violence and offers women and children in Romania a refuge of safety, dignity, and hope: Casa ADRA.

In a quiet neighbourhood in Romania, a woman stepped through the doors of ADRA’s emergency shelter late one evening. She carried only a small bag and her child’s hand. What she found inside was more than a room. She found safety. She found people who looked at her with respect. She found the first breath of peace she had felt in a very long time.

This November—during enditnow Awareness Weeks in the vicinity of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the global Seventh-day Adventist Church lifts its voice against violence. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual global campaign that takes place from 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

During this time, ADRA Romania received news that strengthens this life-saving work. The Emergency Reception Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence, known as Casa ADRA, has been granted its renewed operating licence by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. The centre is now accredited for five more years (30.12.2025–30.12.2030), with a capacity of 18 safe places, according to national quality standards.

This licence is more than a document. It is a promise.

It tells every woman who walks through those doors: “You are not alone. You deserve safety. You deserve healing.”

Alina Bordas-Mohorea, ADRA Romania’s Project Manager, shared her gratitude for the team who made this possible:
“The relicensing process… was made possible thanks to consistent teamwork, in which each colleague contributed with professionalism and dedication. I thank everyone for their involvement and express my gratitude to our beneficiaries, who allow us to grow alongside them both professionally and personally, giving us the privilege of accompanying them with respect and responsibility in their process of recovery and personal rebuilding.”

During enditnow Month, we remember that violence has many forms, but love has one: it protects. With your support, ADRA’s shelter continues to serve as a place where women and children can breathe, rest, and begin again. Here, they find counselling, safety planning, legal guidance, emotional support, and a community that believes every person is a child of God, worthy of peace.

You help make this refuge possible.
